A Blast From The Past

When I originally got my tickets for the 2002 US Open Men’s Championship I merely hoped for some kind of decent matchup. As it got into the later rounds and I saw Lleyton Hewitt, Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick still sticking around, I started to get pretty excited. After Agassi knocked off Hewitt to set up a finals match with Pete Sampras I couldn’t believe the luck. Many times over the last couple of years Agassi and Sampras both seemed like they were way past their prime and on the verge of retirement. This was almost like a double shot of the unexpected run Jimmy Connors made in 1991. It turned out to a great match on a day with perfect weather in my old hometown of Queens. Sampras played nearly perfect with 33 aces and won with a 6-3, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 victory. Click here to see some pics.
